Trans-Tasman All Stars Background and Rankings (13/01/2011 22:55)

In an effort to follow on from Robo's great work in the early seasons (where he used to compile lists of the top players in the Aussie League), I have decided to put up a list of our leagues All-Star players for each season.

However, differing from Robo's previous formula I have decided to make this team for Aussie/Kiwi players only, making it something of a Trans-Tasman All Star side. Probably akin to the sort of squad you would see selected to represent the Aussie League if there was a National style tournament within ML.

Season 88 saw the introduction of the player nationality change option. This new functionality had a significant impact on the Trans-Tasman theme. Selection criteria was adjusted to ensure foreign players who were nationality changed could not qualify for selection without meeting standard naturalisation criteria.
 

I have set the following guidelines to shape the selection process:

1. players must be of Aussie or Kiwi nationality and have completed at least 4 consequtive seasons in the Aussie League,
2. players must be in a current Australian League club,
3. the maximum age for a debutant player is 30,
4. players must have played at least 15 league games in the season,
5. the squad will consist of 18 positions and will have 2 x Keepers, 6 x Defenders, 6 x Midfielders and 4 x Attackers.

The player selection criterion is as follows:

1. highest Q,
2. should Q be tied the player with from the higher division is selected,
3. should Q and division be tied, highest performance is selected.

When a current Captain retires or fails to earn selection the selectors will appoint a new Captain by applying the below criteria until one player is identified: 

1. highest Q player aged between 27-31,
2. youngest player,
3. most caps.

The current Captain will not be replaced whilever he continues to earn selection. 

The selection of the squad will occur after completion of each season. The squad will be announced via an update to this thread. I am also keeping a record in my blog. 

If you are considering changing players nationality to qualify them for selection in this team, the player will need to meet the following criteria to be eligible:

a.  played in the Aussie League for at least the previous 4 seasons, and

b.  have been age 26 or younger when joining the Aussie League, and

c.  be selected before age 31.

The following table is an Honour Roll to list the achievements of Australian League clubs in relation to fielding national players. Clubs will be ranked as follows: 

1. Total numbers of national players,
2. Total number of national caps earned.

The table has been updated to reflect the Season 121 All-Star team.
